Your Privacy Rights

At Scroll Sense, we respect your privacy and give you control over your personal data. This page explains how you can exercise your privacy rights, including those under GDPR, CCPA, and other privacy laws.

1. Access Your Data

You have the right to access all personal data we have collected about you.

📱 How to Access Your Data in the App:
1 Open the Scroll Sense app
2 Go to Settings (tap the Settings tab at the bottom)
3 Tap "Export Data" (under Account & Privacy section)
4 Tap "Export Data" button in the export screen
5 Your data will be exported as a JSON file that you can save or share via the iOS share sheet

What's Included in Export:

  • All journal entries (title, content, mood, tags, date)
  • Activity history
  • Achievement progress
  • Challenge history
  • Account settings and preferences
  • Goals (selected and custom goals)

Note: Your email address is stored securely in Firebase but is not included in the JSON export file for security reasons. You can view your account email in the app's Settings.

2. Delete Your Data

You have the right to request deletion of your personal data at any time.

🗑️ How to Delete Your Account and Data:
1 Open the Scroll Sense app
2 Go to Settings (tap the Settings tab at the bottom)
3 Scroll to "About" section
4 Tap "Delete Account"
5 Confirm deletion - All your data will be permanently deleted within 30 days
⚠️ Important: Account deletion is permanent and cannot be undone. All your data, including journal entries, mood data, and account information, will be permanently deleted within 30 days.

3. Modify Your Data

You can modify your personal data directly in the app:

  • Create Journal Entries: Go to Journal feature → Tap "+" to create new entries with title, content, mood, and tags
  • Update Profile: Go to Settings → Edit your username in the text field and tap "Change Profile Picture" to update your profile picture
  • Change Goals: Go to Goals feature → Delete goals by tapping the "X" button next to any goal
  • Update Settings: Go to Settings → Modify notification preferences, enable/disable Dashboard, and adjust other app preferences

Note: Journal entries are created new each time. To modify existing entries, you would need to delete and recreate them, or contact us for assistance.

4. Opt-Out of Data Collection

You can limit data collection in several ways:

4.1 Opt-Out of AI Analysis

If you don't want your content analyzed by third-party AI services:

  • Simply don't use the "Content Analysis" feature
  • Don't use the "AI Assistant" feature
  • Your content will not be sent to Anthropic or OpenAI

4.2 Disable Notifications

To stop receiving notifications:

  • Go to Settings → Notifications section → Toggle off "Mindfulness Reminders", "Sleep Alerts", "Challenge Reminders", or "Streak Notifications"
  • Or disable all notifications in iOS Settings → Scroll Sense → Notifications

4.3 Limit Data Collection

To minimize data collection:

  • Don't create journal entries (if you don't want mood data stored)
  • Don't use daily check-ins (if you don't want usage data stored)
  • Note: Some data (like account email) is required for app functionality

5. Request Data Deletion via Email

If you prefer to request data deletion via email, or if you have trouble accessing the app:

  • Your email address associated with the account
  • Confirmation that you want to delete your account and all data
  • Any specific data you want deleted (or "all data")

Response Time: We will process your request within 30 days

6. Request Data Access via Email

If you need a copy of your data and prefer email:

7. File a Privacy Complaint

If you have concerns about how we handle your data:

8. California Privacy Rights (CCPA)

If you are a California resident, you have additional rights:

  • Right to Know: Request information about what personal information we collect, use, and share
  • Right to Delete: Request deletion of your personal information
  • Right to Opt-Out: Opt-out of the sale of personal information (we do not sell your data)
  • Non-Discrimination: We will not discriminate against you for exercising your privacy rights

  • Right of Access: Request a copy of your personal data
  • Right to Rectification: Request correction of inaccurate data

  • Right to Data Portability: Request your data in a portable format
